Leh, December 30 (Scoop News)-Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sh. Ghulam Mohammad (JKAS) chaired a meeting of the District TB Forum under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme in the VC room today.
The meeting commenced with a detailed presentation by Yuseer Ahmet, District Programme Coordinator (NTEP). The presentation followed the District TB Forum meeting agenda and covered key aspects including an overview of tuberculosis, the role of the District TB Forum, the vision of TB-Free India, and the TB notification status of Leh district for 2025, wherein the district achieved 160 cases against a target of 35.
The presentation also highlighted district performance indicators such as TB-related deaths in Leh district over the last five years, presumptive TB examination rates, drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB cases, adult and paediatric TB cases, and data on public and private sector TB patients. Special focus was laid on ongoing initiatives including the “TB Harega Desh Jeetega” campaign, the role of TB Champions and family members, Nikshay Poshan Yojana, and the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (PMTBMBA).
During the discussion, the ADC Leh raised queries regarding awareness campaigns, funding mechanisms for TB patients, availability of medicines, provision of nutritional food baskets, and the overall process of support delivery. The concerns were addressed by officials present.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Leh raised issues regarding the requirement of four auxiliary technicians for mobile handling and TV screening to further strengthen TB screening and outreach services.
A TB patient also shared his experience during the meeting, expressing gratitude for the free availability of medicines and regular medical check-ups provided under the programme.
The officials informed that TB cases in Leh district have been consistently reducing over the years, and that Ladakh records the highest rate of presumptive TB testing overall, reflecting strong surveillance and early detection efforts.
