Kathua, December 22 (Scoop News)-BJP Mahila Morcha organized a massively attended Sammelan on Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan in District Kathua, highlighting the vision of a self-reliant India as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP J&K Vice-President and former Minister Priya Sethi, General Secretary Gopal Mahajan, and Mahila Morcha President Adv. Neha Mahajan addressed the Atmanirbhar Sammelan, which underscored the importance of self-reliance in India’s growth story through structural reforms and sector-wise economic measures. The programme was organised by District Kathua Mahila Morcha President Sushma Mahajan.

Addressing the gathering, Priya Sethi said that opening up of the economy and the comprehensive steps under the Atmanirbhar Bharat package have strengthened economic stability. She noted that India’s economy has shown a V-shaped recovery, with agriculture remaining a key driver. She highlighted healthy growth in the agricultural sector, increased tractor sales, rising household incomes through MGNREGS, and the success of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana in easing rural distress. She also cited growth in trade and industry indicators such as PMI, energy demand, e-way bill generation, highway construction, and record GST collections by December 2020.

Gopal Mahajan, in his address, referred to studies indicating contraction in Gross Value Added across sectors. Citing research by Prof. N.R. Bhanumurthy (NIPFP), he stated that India’s GVA may contract by around 13 percent. He emphasized that while increased public spending may lead to inflation, slower growth during recession would have far more severe consequences.

Mahila Morcha President Adv. Neha Mahajan spoke on inclusive development aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She highlighted key welfare initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission, and infrastructure schemes that have reduced poverty, improved healthcare, education, sanitation, and women empowerment. She also emphasized the government’s efforts in clean energy, sustainable agriculture, climate action, and self-reliant manufacturing.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Updesh Andotra.
