Principal Secretary Health & Medical Education Visits Kargil to Review Health Services

Kargil: August 13 (Scoop News)- 12th August 2025 Shri Sanjeev Khirwar, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Department of Health and Medical Education, UT Ladakh, visited Kargil district today to review the functioning of the Health and Medical Education Department and assess the status of healthcare facilities in the region.

As part of the visit, the Principal Secretary inspected the 100 bedded District Hospital Kargil, where he took a detailed round of various wards and departments to assess infrastructure, patient care services, and the availability of medical equipment. He interacted with doctors, nursing staff, and patients to understand the current challenges and requirements.

Shri Khirwar was accompanied by Shri Tushar Anand, IAS Mission Director, National Health Mission Ladakh, and Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director Health Services, Senior officers from both the district health administration, SPO, DPO, Doctors, coordinators, and consultants were also present during the inspection.

Later, a review meeting was convened at the conference hall Baroo. During the meeting, the Principal Secretary assessed the implementation progress of key health schemes and programmes in the district. This included ongoing NHM initiatives, maternal and child health services, immunisation campaigns, and efforts to enhance healthcare access in remote areas. He also reviewed human resource allocation, the supply of essential medicines, and the status of ongoing infrastructure projects.

Shri Khirwar emphasised the critical need for timely and accurate reporting, stronger coordination between field and administrative teams, and the efficient use of available resources to deliver high quality healthcare across Kargil. In particular, he urged that all relevant data be uploaded promptly to HMIS, with dedicated focus on anaemia and tuberculosis cases. He further stressed that there shouldn’t be any vacant post under NHM and directed concerned officers to ensure all information is regularly updated on official government platforms.

Appreciating the unwavering dedication of health officials and frontline workers, Shri Khirwar assured the UT Administration’s unwavering support in further strengthening health services across the district.
