Discussed wide Range of issues pretaining to Wakaf in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, July 10 (Scoop News)-Former Haj, Aquaf, and Education Minister and senior BJP leader Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali met with Dr. Darkashna Andrabi, Chairperson of the J&K Wakaf Board, in Srinagar today to discuss various issues related to Wakaf, including better management and utilization of Wakaf properties in the union territory. They also deliberated on several matters, including provisions of the New Wakaf Act and its ground-level implications.

He commended the steps taken by Dr. Andrabi to streamline the system, which had been derailed for decades in the UT erstwhile State. He emphasized the importance of utilizing Wakaf properties solely for purposes strictly in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah, providing better facilities to lawful beneficiaries, establishing health and educational institutions, and assisting the poor and destitute. Furthermore, he stressed the need for proper financial discipline and transparent accountability within the organization, which has been lacking for some time.

He appreciated the arrangements made for the Annual Haj Pilgrimage 2025 and urged the Chairperson to take up the matter with the Government of India to increase the quota for Annual Haj 2026, considering Jammu and Kashmir's high Muslim population.

He also emphasized the need to identify and reclaim Wakaf properties in the Rajouri district from local illegal encroachers. Additionally, he demanded that the Aquaf Rajouri be handed over to the control of Jamia Mosque Koteranka Rajouri for better management and development, and that a Palpet Member be constructed in the Eid Gah Koteranka, removing all illegal encroachments and ensuring better facilities for worshippers, in line with local population demands.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the Chairperson assuring to address all genuine concerns at the earliest.
