CEC discusses on Ladakh-Specific Issues in an Hour-Long Meeting with Union Home Secretary

Leh, July 08 (Scoop News)- Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson met Shri Govind Mohan, Union Home Secretary, MHA, GoI, and submitted a memorandum outlining several issues of pressing concern to the region.H’CEC expressed gratitude to the Union Home Secretary for the recent age relaxation in recruitment—a much-needed step that addresses a longstanding concern among Ladakhi youth. He also underlined the importance of the recent finalisation of wildlife boundary rationalisation by the State Board for Wildlife, resolving an issue that had remained pending for decades.The memorandum broadly outlined concerns regarding the growing challenges faced by the tourism sector, particularly in light of the recent decline in tourist footfall following the Pahelgam incident. H’CEC stressed the need for targeted support and policy-level interventions to help the sector recover.He further raised the issue of expedition and peak access management, emphasising the need for decentralised and locally driven regulatory mechanisms that are better aligned with Ladakh’s unique geographical and operational realities.Also highlighted was the demand for regulated satellite phone access for registered tour operators, to enhance the safety and communication capabilities of teams operating in remote high-altitude areas.The memorandum reiterated the long-pending demand for the creation of a dedicated Ladakh Administrative and Police Service (LAS/LPS), in line with the aspirations of Ladakhi youth. A special UPSC recruitment drive for referred gazetted vacancies was also requested.H’CEC concluded by expressing hope for the swift resumption of dialogue on other key matters pertaining to Ladakh’s administrative and developmental concerns.
