Leh, July 08 (Scoop News)- Hope and long-awaited relief are finally reaching the people of Nubra and Changthang, as the long-pending issue of wildlife sanctuary boundary rationalization moves a step closer to resolution. The proposal has now been formally approved by the State Board for Wildlife and is set to be forwarded to the National Board for Wildlife for final clearance—marking a pivotal advancement after more than 40 years of consistent efforts, especially under the leadership of the 6th LAHDC, Leh.Hon’ble Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson congratulated the people of Nubra and Changthang, calling the development a long-awaited course correction. He noted that this issue, which remained unresolved under the erstwhile State Government of J&K, has found renewed attention and progress under the Union Territory of Ladakh. The rationalization of the boundaries has been a matter particularly close to the heart of the 6th LAHDC, which has worked with urgency and purpose to see the fulfilment of the aspirations of the people in these region.H’CEC Tashi Gyalson expressed deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah for their enduring support and for acknowledging Ladakh’s unique challenges and development goals.He further extended his thanks to Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Ladakh, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), for his unwavering guidance and crucial administrative backing at every stage of the process.The H’CEC also acknowledged the vital support of Hon’ble Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav, along with Chief Secretary Sh. Pawan Kotwal and Principal Secretary Sh. Sanjeev Khirwar of UT Ladakh, for providing the institutional will and timely administrative momentum needed to take the proposal forward.The contributions of Hon’ble Councillors from the affected constituencies were also highlighted, along with appreciation for the steadfast role of the local governance bodies, who have stood firmly with their communities throughout the process.Special commendation was given to the Wildlife Department of UT Ladakh, particularly Chief Wildlife Warden Sh. Sajjad Mufti and his team, for formulating a comprehensive and well-balanced proposal that respects both ecological sensitivity and the lived realities of local populations.Also an appreciation was extended to individuals who worked behind the scenes, including Mr. Stanzin Tsepal, Stone Hedge, Nubra, whose involvement and local engagement played an important role in bringing community concerns to the fore.With the proposal now progressing to the National Board for Wildlife, the 6th LAHDC, Leh remains hopeful that final approval is on the horizon—bringing long-denied administrative clarity and development potential to the people of Changthang and Nubra.The Hon’ble CEC further urged that, wherever feasible, the demarcation of boundaries should strive to adhere to the original notified size in the respective regions, in order to safeguard traditional land use and uphold the expectations of local communities, strategic and administrative needs. He also assured that the rationalisation of Hemis National Park, which holds immense significance for the people, would be prioritised and expedited in coordination with all relevant stakeholders.
