AIP questions Farooq Abdullah's intent behind Supreme Court move on Statehood

Srinagar, June 22 (Scoop News)- Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Senior Leader and MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, while taking to social media, raised strong objections to the hypocrisy displayed by certain political parties over the deteriorating health condition of senior incarcerated leader Shabir Ahmad Shah. Referring to media reports suggesting that Shah is suffering from prostate cancer and requires urgent surgery, Sheikh Khursheed said it is ironic and shameful that those very political parties who were either part of or supported the BJP-led government when Shah was arrested are now shedding crocodile tears over his health.

He stated that those who did not even whisper a word in his support when he was being booked and jailed are now suddenly issuing concern statements. He termed this behavior as nothing but political hypocrisy and opportunism, done only to gain sympathy and headlines, while their actions in power tell a different story.

Reacting strongly to National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah’s recent announcement that NC would approach the Supreme Court for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Sheikh Khursheed questioned the intent and sincerity behind the move. He reminded the public that NC had earlier sought votes on the promise of politically fighting for the return of statehood and autonomy. "Now saying that you will go to the Supreme Court means only one thing — buying time and avoiding political confrontation with BJP," he added.

He asserted that common citizens, lawyers and activists can approach courts. "But what is the role of a political party like NC, which had a mass mandate and promised to fight politically? You are now reducing that mandate to legal paperwork," he remarked, accusing Farooq Abdullah and his party NC of playing a double game to mislead the people once again.

Sheikh Khursheed also responded to Omar Abdullah’s past remark during the recent Lok Sabha election campaign, in which Omar said that voting for Er Rashid would be a waste of a mandate. "But time has proved who wasted the mandate," he said. "Despite being in incarceration, Er Rashid fulfilled his responsibility by paying huge sums to secure permission to attend Parliament, proving his commitment to his people."

He further criticized Omar Abdullah’s reaction to MP Srinagar Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, who had demanded that NC MLAs present their report card. In response, Omar had suggested that Aga Ruhullah should first present his own report card. Khursheed said this response from Omar essentially implies that even voting for Aga Ruhullah was a waste — exposing Omar’s mindset of undermining accountability.
