He made a particular mention of the BJP and dared its leadership to list their achievements with regard to fulfilling the developmental needs of J&K people.“Despite being in power at the Centre and in the State the party failed miserably on governance front and let down J&K on all fronts”, he said, adding that the BJP has nothing to showcase as its achievement, least to fulfilling liberal promises during elections.
Wani observed that the treachery and deceit of the BJP is haunting Jammu people who reposed their unflinching faith and support to it with the hope that Jammu may perhaps get a better deal as during the days of its wilderness in the opposition, the BJP leaders were crying hoarse over discrimination and neglect. He charged the BJP for reversing some of the prestigious projects launched during the tenure of Congress Govt for putting the Jammu region on equal pedestal of development.“Not only on the front of development but equally in terms of instilling a sense of confidence among the people, the BJP has desperately failed”, Wani said and referred to uncertain political climate prevailing across the State ever-since the coalition dispensation came into being.
Referring to the issues confronting people of J&K, Wani said in absence of elected Govt, LG Administration has failed badly to pursue all those connected with development for giving push to the schemes and projects aimed at overall development and welfare of various areas and different segments of society.“We will keep pursuing and highlighting every issue, major or minor, to see J&K progress and prosper, notwithstanding the odds”, he assured the people of J&K and said that their support, cooperation and, above all, feedback and counseling about their needs will be crucially useful for party to get their grievances addressed timely and properly.
Bhalla in his address said that while the insensitive BJP Govt failed in assuaging urges and aspirations of the people on political front, its record in governance was quite dismal. “The J&K was virtually witnessing mis-governance with Government nowhere to be seen on ground”, he said, adding that if all there was any visibility of Govt anywhere in J&K, it was for all the wrong reasons of exploiting people and inciting them to fight each other. He blamed BJP for exploiting people by playing with their emotions on good governance drama staged by them. He said that Congress Party stands guarantee to the equitable development of all the regions and the people. It will continue to serve the people to the best of its ability. “Apart from developmental and administrative inertia, the present anti-people dispensation is credited of sowing seeds of discord and perpetrating polarization by bringing regions and communities eyeball to eyeball situation as per sinister political strategy”, Bhalla said.
The former Minister blamed the Govt of credibility deficit, saying “There is a huge contradiction between words and actions of the Govt. He referred to the deceptive posturing of BJP said this is being done with a purpose to conceal its failures on governance and developmental fronts. He also described lack of coordination between various components of the government detrimental to the interests of the sensitive J&K, which needs special dispensation for its unique problems. He said the initiatives taken by the previous Congress government with regard to implementation of various developmental projects and welfare schemes have been put under the carpet mostly, which has considerably retarded growth and development across J&K.Bhalla listed various issues faced to the people of J&K and said erratic power supply, scarcity of drinking water, deteriorating living standard of common man, defunct utility services, increase in prices and deficiency of basic commodities have terribly hit the common man, who is feeling sense of deprivation.Bhalla said people, especially unemployed youth and different segments of employees and daily rated workers are taking to streets and this government doesn’t seem to be concerned. He cautioned the government against testing the patience of the people and hoped that their problems would be looked into for early redressal. He complimented party cadre cadre for appreciating the need for strengthening amity and tranquility and remaining in the forefront to isolate divisive forces.
Bhalla also castigated the DP-BJP Government for contemptuously ignoring peoples’ aspirations and taking vicarious pleasure in their accumulating woes. He said his party will scuttle every attempt of the BJP and safeguard the rights of the people to start a new phase of development, once it returns to power. Former Minister maintained that J&K needs a new direction as BJP has proved to be utter flops in governing J&K failed to take the country on the path of development and progress. He described BJP as ‘storyteller’ which failed to give direction to the country and guide it on the right path. Party has completely failed and that’s why they tell stories. He said whipping up passions for short-term political goals will not do any good to the nation. The policies of BJP have flopped. “I can tell you with guarantee that they can do no good to this country,” he added.
Yogesh Sawhney in his address said that there is no visibility of the government on ground, as a result of which the wheels of development have come to grinding halt. But for the propaganda, the present dispensation has nothing to showcase as its achievements, he said, adding that utility services have been worst affected. In this context, he referred to the strong edifice laid during the Congress led government and said those works have either been abandoned or are being executed at a snail’s pace. The worst victims have been the people, especially those living in remote and far-off areas, he added.Sawhney expressed anguish over brazen nepotism while referring to growing resentment among youth with regard to recruitments and said the BJP in particular has failed in safeguarding the interests of educated eligible candidates. The Jammu youth feel totally alienated and if their concerns are not addressed, the ramifications could be severe, he added.
