DOM, Confederation demands death sentence for death of a Dalit boy in Rajasthan, writes to President

Jammu, August 16 (Scoop News)- Dalit OBC Minority (DOM), All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations, National Student and Youth Front (NSYF) participated in a protest at Press Club Jammu today. The agenda of the protest was to demand death sentence for the culprit because of whom a 9 year old Dalit boy from Jalore, Rajasthan succumbed to his injuries and died. A memorandum was also submitted to Smt Droupadi Murmu, President of India; Sh Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India; Sh Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor J&K.

RK Kalsotra., State President Confederation, DOM, informed the media that a few days back a nine year old Dalit boy from Jalore Village in Rajasthan drank water from the pot of his school principal who belonged to an upper caste. The boy got brutally beaten by the principal resulting in his death. This is just one of the many cases of caste based discrimination and the practice of untouchability. Various slogans were raised like – chuachat se aazadi, manuwad se aazadi, uunch-neech se aazadi.

Kalsotra highlighted that the practice of untouchability has been banned by the Constitution of India under article 17 but it still practiced all across the nation. In this connection, DOM, a wing of All India Confederation, submitted a memorandum to Honourable President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, wherein a fast track judicial hearing was demanded for the culprit, along with an award of death sentence. This would set a precedence for future against all kinds of caste based discrimination.

Kalsotra also noted that these cases of caste based discrimination are not isolated and have been happening even after 75 years of independence. The cases of atrocities occurred against resident of Magu Wali, R S Pura , government officials in Rajouri, manhandling and abuse of a boy at Murare Chak Bishnah, and many more. Cases are either not registered under SC/ST Atrocities Act or are dismissed in compromise.

Kalsotra said that it has been 75 years of independence. India gained freedom from the colonial rule but not from caste discrimination and untouchability. He also questioned the nature of Independence Day celebration which celebrates the struggle of freedom fighters but forgets their own role in sustaining that freedom and equality for all as enshrined in the Constitution of India.

Kalsotra informed the media that memorandum also demanded that an enquiry should be set in place against the Rajasthan state government to look into the loopholes, and compensation should be awarded to the victim’s family. Moreover, the case should be considered as a landmark incident that can be a warning to any further practice of untouchability in India which resulted in the death of a child as young as a nine-year-old.

Others who were present at the protest and spoke were Ramesh Sarmal,
S Narinder Singh Khalsa, Bansi Lal Choidhary, Shahid Salim Mir, FC Satia, Chuni Lal Mangotra, S Kuldeep Singh, Adv Ashok Kumar, Ramesh Angurana, Tarun Paroch, Arun Loach, Azam Melu, Mangal Bhagat, Ashok Bhagat, Mohan Pawar and many others
