Jammu,May 03 (Scoop News)-The J&K Samaj Kayan Kendra, Jammu (SKK) today organised a brief but impressive function in the premises of the School for Hearing Handicapped to launch Smt Anita Raina Memorial Scholarship for economically poor girl students.
Smt Anita Raina, herself a teacher, passed away last year and her husband, B K Raina, Advisor SKK & her children decided to give an annual scholarship to support poor deaf & dumb girl students of the school on her first death anniversary. These scholarships are being given out of the bank interest accruing on the fixed deposits of Rs. 2 lakhs. Five deaf & dumb girl students, hailing from poor families, were selected by the school for a scholarship of Rs 3000 each.
Father of two of them, Komal Sharma of 8th class & Damni Sharma of 9th class have since died with a lot of financial issues in the family to make both ends meet while fathers of two other girl students Gurpreet Kaur of class 3rd & Damini of class 11th are casual labourer. Father of the fifth girl student, Kirti Angral of 4th class, is an auto driver.
Anjli Raina, daughter-in-law of late Smt Anita Raina, who is working in the USA, distributed cheques, certificates, and stationery items to these girls.
Parents of these girls were also present who thanked Raina family for their gesture and support for girls hailing from poor families. Besides Anjli Raina, B K Raina, President SKK K B Jandial, General Secretary J K Vaid & Principal Roshan Bhan also spoke on the occasion.
Among others present included V K Padha, B B Magotra & O P Sharma, teachers, and students of the school.
