Polythene ban: Samba admin decides to launch mass awareness campaign
Samba,July 19 (Scoop News)- To make district polythene waste free, the district administration and municipal committees of Samba will work jointly to sensitize and encourage the residents for giving their earnest support for making the district 100 percent polystyrene free.

Chairing a meeting here today to discusses the modalities for strict implementation of ban on polythene bags, Deputy Commissioner Sushma Chauhan, said that concentrated efforts must be made to educate the residents about various ways, in which they can keep the district clean, including the use of jute carry bags, cotton bags, reusable paper and other such environmental friendly bags.

DC said that intensive activities including awareness rallies shall be organized in every part of the district where the residents shall take pledge to shun the use of plastic carry bags, beside several other measures to maintain cleanliness in the city, on daily basis.

“The Executive officers of the municipalities should conduct surprise checking in their respective divisions against the use of plastic carry bags, as its use has been banned by the govt” the DC added.

She asked the Executive Officers to educate the people about use of alternate carry bags as provided the Handloom and Handicraft departments, besides NGOs. The DC directed the AD Handloom to provide eco-friendly carry bags as sample to all EOs in order to aware the general public.

The SDMs were asked to monitor the drive personally for motivating all the stakeholders in the district against the use of polythene bags.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Gupta, SDM Vijaypur, Vijay Sharma, SDM Ghagwal Ritu Mahajan, Assistant Commissioner Development M L Tasir, Tehsildars and Executive Officers of Municipalities of Samba, Vijaypur, Bari-Brahmana, Ramgarh, Rajpura besides other officials.
