Devotees celebrate Buddha Purnima with religious fervor and gaiety | listen to Dhamma discourses, cultural programmes held |
Leh(Ladakh), June 18, (Scoop News)-Thousands of devotees congregated at Tingmosgong Khar to celebrate Buddha Purnima on Monday and also have a glimpse of Rchanrsang’s statue besides listening to Dhamma discourses by Rinpoche Skyabje Tokdam.
For past over 600 years, the day was being celebrated at Tingmosgong Khar every year.
Speaking on the occasion, Rinpoche exhorted people to avoid consumption of meat and alcohol and said its ingestion has been responsible for many road accidents and untimely loss of life in the region.
“Driving under the influence of alcohol is dangerous and it could harm ones or others life”, he said adding that “the consumption of alcohol must be stopped as it is the cause for many problems in the social life.”
Entire Himalaya region celebrated the event with religious fervor, gaiety and several enchanting cultural programmes were performed which depicted different deeds of Lord Buddha.
In Leh town, Skyangchhak Chhoskul Tsogspa performed Gochhak prostration from Skyasaks to Shanti Stupa.
At Alchi, Cultural Academy- Leh in collaboration with Alchi Dukling Society organized a colourful event under the aegis of president of Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA), Gelong Shatup Chamba, and renowned scholars like Gelong Thupstan Paldan, Dr Jamyang Gyaltsan and Dr Lobzang Tsewang who highlighted the teachings of Buddha and also the importance of the day.
