Army Cycle Expedition flagged off from Siachen | | Leh, May -17 (Scoop News)- As part of the ongoing commemoration of 20th Anniversary of KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS, a Cycle Expedition being undertaken by Siachen Warriors Brigade was flagged off from Siachen today. The expedition team comprising of one officer, one JCO and 10 Other Ranks will cover a distance of approximately 600km over 12 days, through the challenging mountainous landscapes of Siachen and Eastern Ladakh, including popular locations of Hunder, Khalsar, Agam, Pangong Tso, Chang La, Leh, Khardung La and Siachen Base Camp.
The expedition team will visit various educational institutions enroute and make the students aware about the Kargil War including the important role played by many Ladakhi soldiers in the war.
The expedition team also aims to spread awareness about the fragile ecology of the Leh-Ladakh Region and make people aware about 'SWACHH SIACHEN ABHIYAN' being undertaken by the 'Siachen Warriors Brigade'. The team will share knowledge about environmental protection and waste management with the students as well as tourists they meet enroute, as part of the awareness initiative. In Leh, the team is scheduled to interact with Mr Sonam Wangchuk of the 'Druk White Lotus School', to gain knowledge about environment protection and learn about various innovations instituted by Mr Wangchuk to protect environment in the Ladakh Region. ... |
