PoK DPs Indefinite Chain Dharna enters into day 21

Jammu,January 16 (Scoop News)- The “Indefinite Chain Dharna” led by S. O. S. International, An Organization for PoK Displaced Persons (Regd) has entered its 21st day today, under the chairmanship of Mr. Rajiv Chuni.

Today’s dharna was lead by R. K. Sharma (Retd. KAS) assisted by Vijay Kumar Gupta, Pankaj Sethi, Ashok Kumar Sharma, Dilip Kumar and Amar Nath. Team leader expressed that the right time has been chosen to teach a lesson to the Political Parties who give false promises during election period and after the same is over they vanish. Strategy has been devised by this displaced community to vote against these law makers during elections unless some firm and solid works are done before the notification of the election schedule by them to redress the grievances of displaced persons.

Mr. Sharma further stated that he served in J&K State and now drawing the pension also but being a member of the displaced community, they were registered at Yole camp in Himachal Pradesh which was previously a part of Punjab State. A Mirpur colony was established for these displaced persons of Yole camp at Pathankot by the government. When the PoK DPs were made to stay at Yole camp, the victims of Indo-Pak partition were also staying there. The victims of Indo-Pak partition staying there were granted with “Refugee’ status, paid Rs. 14000/- as cash compensation along with free school and college education to their wards, allotted lands here in India in lieu of whatsoever they left behind in Pakistan during partition and they were rehabilitated permanently and came back to main stream by virtue of the Act “Displaced Persons (Relief & Rehabilitation) Act 1954” whereas we displaced persons, demanded the same concessions as per the 1954 Act which was denied to us stating the reason that we were not the victims of partition and cannot be accommodated as per this Act of 1954 which is meant for victims of partition as PoK is the integral part of India and hence we cannot be benefitted by this act. Now we also have been left out of the Package announced by the Prime Minister for PoJK displaced Persons on November 7, 2015. Mr. Sharma questioned that where these 5300 families of PoK DPs who were sent out of the State go, neither they were considered as victims of partition nor they are now included in PMs package for PoK DPs

Mr. Sharma warned that they were left with no alternative then to sit on indefinite dharna; still it is high time for government to listen to their grievances once for all for amicable settlement of issues.

The main 6 key demands viz. implementation of the whole package passed by State Cabinet in October 2014 for PoK Displaced Persons, provide facilities to all displaced at par with Valley Migrants, reservation of 8 seats for people displaced from PoK in J&K Legislative Assembly, permit PoK DPs to visit to their religious places in PoK, inclusion of 5, 300 PoK DPs families living outside the State in the ambit of package passed in October 2014 and return of cash deposits with interest to PoK DPs lying with J&K Bank Mirpur.
