SECI to harness huge potential of solar energy, setting up two major projects in region at whopping Rs 45,000 crore
220 KV Leh-Srinagar transmission line tested
Leh(Ladakh), January 14, (Scoop News)_Over 200 km to the south of Kargil district headquarters, the work on 2, 500nMW solar Photo Voltaic (PV) plant is likely to commence shortly, informed sources said.

The project will come up on the large swathes of inhospitable land in Suru Valley, they said adding the project is envisaged to be completed by 2023. The power generated from the PV plant will book up with the grid at Alisteng near Srinagar.

The sources said another project with 5,000 MW generation capacity will be set up near Hanle- Khaldo of Nyoma block, about 250 km east of Leh for which 900 km line will be laid along the Leh- Manali road up to Kaithal in Haryana.

In a bid to harnessing huge potential of solar energy in the Ladakh region, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under renewable ministry is promoting the projects in Jammu and Kashmir at a whopping cost of over rupees 45,000 crore.

Besides many firsts, the project bid offers versatility such as combining solar plant and associated transmission lines. This puts promoters in control, who otherwise have to depend on another agency for transmission and suffer if clearance routes are delayed.

Meanwhile, the 220 KV Leh- Srinagar transmission line is complete in all respects and can be commissioned anytime in near future, Power Grid Corporation (PGC) sources said.

They said the line was charged on Thursday last and as precautionary measure had asked general public to stay away from the line and towers till the transmission is stablised. The line from Leh to Alisteng in Srinagar has four sub stations at Leh, Khaltsi, Kargil and Drass were also tested and are ready for charging.

The sources said the line will ensure connectivity of Ladakh region with the national grid and subsequent availability of the power supply to the region round the year...
