Magical glove that could become a boon for physiotherapy

Jammu, January 08 (Scoop News)-To know about the pressure and force that is applied on a patient under a physiotherapy treatment, a devise made by a professional physiotherapist Nikhil Mahajan could become a boon for the profession in coming years.

This new device namely, F.R.P.H.G. also known as Force Resistance Physiotherapy Hand Glove is one of the game changer for physiotherapy practising and teaching.

Nikhil says that little has been discovered and patented (under ref. no. 201811046534) in the field of Physiotherapy from our country and I do not want it to go un-noticed.

He shares an interesting story behind his finding. “It started with a very interesting story that one day in my class I asked my teacher about how much force he was applying on the patient while teaching us a manual therapy technique. As I was expecting a detailed answer or a numerical answer for my question but in return I was thrown out of the class that day. While sitting in the library and finding my answer I came up out this idea to develop a gadget which can actually tell us how much force was been applied by a skilled physiotherapist on his patents during sessions”.

He further impressed upon the fact that idea further adds advantage to Physiotherapist in various aspects, like its clinical use where a skilled therapist will use same amount of force each time leading to more accuracy and compliance.

Studying and finding more about this concept, which at that time seems very difficult to paper a working model of the Glove as I was from a medical background and this F.R.P.H.G. needed an engineer and a programmer. And it took eight years to understand the requirements. There were lot things which needed to consider before making this Glove.

• I first started with, studying various manual therapy techniques and fining the most appropriate pressure points used by the Physiotherapists frequently where these sensors needs to be inculcated.

• Then, studying various pressure sensors and their properties, I came to know about two type of sensors which we needed to use one was round pressure sensor and other was strip sensor.

• But this was not enough. A deep study of the hand was needed to build. Glove which do not slips and give freedom of movement which was very necessary while we preform any movement.

• Here, I came to know about various material which can be used. In the present invention, 15gm PU is used with mesh and padding to the tips. Gloves in the range offers the less level of force resistance error, providing a controlled grip for the wearer, a fluid repellent liner that ensures therapist’s hands to keep them dry is also been used. A lining of Spandex is used carefully.

In short: The present system Force Resistance Physiotherapy Hand Glove deals with the force resistors been inculcated to a glove which is used for the various Manual Therapy Techniques and then the readings can be used for more accuracy and compliance.

• Further, It can also be used as an educational tool where a skilled Manual Therapist will teach how much amount of force has to be used while performing on a patient in a normal manual therapy session. The unskilled practitioner or the learner will then perform to the said amount of force and will thus increases his skills and leads to more accuracy.

The present system Force Resistance Physiotherapy Hand Glove deals with the below mentioned process/ parts:

• Glove: will be the input source where the sensors will pick up the force been applied and will send to the circuit.

• Circuit: The circuit will receive the force been applied from the sensors been inculcated in the gloves and will send it to the software for the processing it into meaningful results.

• Software: The brain of the FSR Glove will then convert the input received from the circuit and will convert them into human interface. (The idea of the software and its interface is enclosed with the documentations)

• Output: Whether screen or a mobile app, the output of the amount of the force been applied will be shown in the screen for reading.
