Congress blames BJP for depriving women of 33% quota in ULB elections

Jammu, November 11, (Scoop News)-A meeting of senior leadership of the congress party comprising AICC members from Jammu province was held here Sunday under the chairmanship of PCC president, G.A. Mir.

The meeting took stock of the overall political scenario in the state besides reviewing the organizational activities in the wake of recent ULB elections and ongoing election to the Panchayats in the state and discussed the strategy to gear up to expose the BJP for the future elections in the state.

The party leaders felt the need to counter the fake propaganda and strategy of the BJP to further polarize the situation in the wake of coming general elections to the Lok Sabha and Assembly in future.

The party would devise an effective strategy to deal with the false propaganda and publicity of BJP, as there are no achievements of party in the province and the people have faced worst ever neglect and misgovernance in the State during PDP-BJP rule and the skeletons of their misdeeds are tumbling out one after another on all fronts be recruitment, development, corruption & favoritism.

Briefing the senior leaders about the overall political situation and the organizational activities in the recent elections all over state, JKPCC chief, G.A Mir said that Congress Party took the bold decisions to strengthen democracy in the state against all odds of worst ever security situation and political scenario in the state, especially when two main parties had opted out of the exercise.

This had put the party workers in a very difficult situation in most parts and had to face a hostile atmosphere, as congress was the only main political force to face the people. He congratulated the leaders and party workers for their commitment to the party ideology and to the democracy.

He said that while the party gained heavily in Ladakh and Kashmir regions, its overall vote share in Jammu region has multiplied many fold as compared to last elections.

Mir said BJP can claim victory in terms of number in JMC but no one can ignore the fact that BJP lost over 50% of vote share in Jammu city alone as compared to last assembly elections.

He said that congress vote share and percentage in almost all ULBs in the region has gone up considerably, which reflects disillusionment with BJP and is a positive indication for the future of our party.

JKPCC said division of votes of dissent of between congress and independents went to the advantage of BJP in terms of number but BJP had lost most of ULBs in the region although it indulged in horse trading exercise to woo the independents and congress councilors, through influence of power, by delaying the elections to the presidents/ Vice-Presidents of the MCs without any justified reason.

JKPCC chief blamed BJP of depriving the women 33% quota to the heads of ULBs including to those of SC/ST and OBCs as already provided in the State Municipal Act, at par with 74th amendment, done during congress regime in the state.

This was done deliberately as BJP did not have clear majority in most ULBs in the region and it wanted to grab these bodies by hook & crook. A great injustice has been done to the women in the ULBs, while similar right is available to women in Rural PRIs, at all three tiers, like Panch, Sarpanch, Chairpersons of BDCs and District Boards.

All senior leaders gave their inputs of the ground situations and strategy to be adopted to counter the opposition agenda in a more effective manner to overcome the short comings and to gear up for the future electoral exercises.

The misdeeds and utter failures of BJP while sharing power in the state and neglect of central government towards the major issues of the region would be the focus of the party to expose BJP in Jammu region.

Prominent leaders present in the meeting include S/Shri Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Sham Lal Sharma, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Suman Bhagat, Th. Balwan Singh, Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Naresh Gupta, Th.
