The other appointees include R C Puri President, J. A Kazmi Sr. Vice President, Th. Karnail Chand General Secretary, Sdr. J.J Singh Secretary, Pritam Sharma Jt. Secretary, Sdr. Speaking on the occasion, Ved Gandotra said that thousands of our freedom fighters sacrificed their lives and millions of them struggled in order to drive away British rulers and constituted a system of democracy centered around us. How our nation has fared over the last 70 years is something we cannot change but the future is in our hands. Nation is indebted with great sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Raj Guru, Mahatma Gandhi and other brave freedom fighters for their unforgettable contribution in securing freedom for the nation. Let us ensure that we exercise our rights and proudly participate in our democracy so that India heads in the right direction, Gandotra added. People today concentrate more on materialistic prosperity and forget their obligations towards their country. “It would be nice to see our people work hard to safeguard our nation’s integrity and be grateful to the great men and women who have laid down their lives for a free India,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahajan regretted the lack of awareness among the youth about the country's freedom struggle and called for all-round efforts to inculcate knowledge of history among the masses."The young generation is not fully aware of the heroic sacrifices of freedom fighters that paved the way for our independence," Mahajan said. Patriotism does not mean that we must march up to the border and fight for our country, it means that we must respect our country, respect the national integrity, acknowledge the martyrs for their sacrifices and strive for the betterment of our country and its masses. We, as Indians, should be proud of our country, which is home to people of different religions, ethnic and cultural diversities. Therefore, we must do our utmost to preserve this state in our country by doing our bit and being secular and unbiased towards all, Mahajan added.
