PDP demonstrates its strength, 22 lawmakers accompany party chief to attend last rites of late Vajpayee






New Delhi, August 18, (Scoop News)-Much to the bewilderment of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Mehbooba Mufit, president Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday attended the funeral rites of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee with about 22 lawmakers accompanying her

15 MLA’s, five MLC’s and two parliamentarians of PDP were among other mourners who participated in the last rites of the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Smriti Sthal . However, about 12 legislators belonging to the party remained away from the event.

According to party sources, 15 MLA’s, five MLC’s and two parliamentarians accompanied Mehbooba Mufti to attend the last rites of late Vajpayee who had great affection for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the party.

They said the former PM was a great leader and helped the state when late Mufti Mohammed Syed was the chief minister of the state.

The sources, however, dismissed speculation of government formation in offing in the state. “There is nothing of the sort happening in the party at present. We are busy in strengthening the party and other related organizational matters,” they added.

Tens of thousands mourners from different parts the country chanting ‘Long Live Vajpayee’ followed the former PM’s cortege amid tight security arrangement. Even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah covered a distance of nearly four kilometers by walking behind the gun carriage decked with flowers.

The most mourners dressed in the colour of grief to remember the man who dreamt of an inclusive India.
