Samphel castigates BJP for failing to fulfill its poll promises
supports retention of Article 35A


Leh(Ladakh), August 15, (Scoop News)-While welcoming the initiative of the Civil Society of state in protecting Article 35A, senior Congress leader, Tsering Samphel, has openly supported its retention.
While defending the Article 35A, Samphel said “it confers several special privileges to the permanent residents of the state. If it is gone particularly the inhabitants of Leh district shall be the first victims of its repercussions. The law gives us protection to our immovable properties.”
He conveyed his concerns over the abrogation of Article 35A through Muzaffar Shah, leader of Awami National Conference.
Samphel a former lawmaker, ex president District Congress Committee (DCC), former president Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), ex Member National Commission for Scheduled Tribes and various other public welfare Associations and Unions castigated Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) for making lofty promises to the people of Ladak region.
He reminded BJP of its several promises including granting of Union Territory (UT) status to Ladakh within six months of assuming power at the Centre in 2014, inclusion of Bhoti Language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and the reopening of the Kailash- Mansorvar in Tibet through Ladakh for pilgrimage and trade.
Leaving aside the high expectations of the people, the very being of Ladakhis is in question due to Article 35A. The Article has been challenged in the Supreme Court of India with full throttle.
Samphel said it was on these promises the people of Ladakh elected BJP candidate to Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament but, surprisingly not a single promise has been fulfilled till date.
