Leh celebrates Independence Day with patriotic zeal, fervour


Leh, August 15 (Scoop News)- The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at Leh polo ground today. CEC LAHDC, Dorjey Motup unfurled the national tri-colour amidst the gathering of thousands of people, invitees, army personals and parade contingent of police, paramilitary and school children.

Earlier, in the morning CEC hoisted the national flag at Council secretariat in presence of all the Executive Councilors, Councilors, DC, Leh Avny Lavasa and the staffs of Council Secretariat. Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa also hoisted the national flag at DC Office complex.


Addressing on the occasion, CEC Dorjey Motup said that Independence Day is a moment to remember the freedom fighters who gave supreme sacrifices to free our country. He stressed that this occasion is a day to take commitment to serve our motherland and contribute our part of duty and responsibility for the development and progress of the nation.
Mentioning about few major achievements for Ladakh in the recent time CEC said that May 19 has been a historic day for every Ladakhi for two reasons. He added that on that day our pioneer leader Kushok Bakula Rinpoche was paid tribute by entire nation on the culmination of his one year long centenary celebration in presence of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in Leh. Same day Zojila tunnel connecting Ladakh to rest of country was also launched by the Prime Minister from Leh.
He added that because of certain reasons agriculture sector has suffered greatly in the district. He stressed that the present council is fully committed to revive the traditional land based economy and ensure self sustainability by improving agriculture and allied departments on priority. Making a special mention of seabuckthorn which recently got included under Horticulture, CEC said that Rs. 10 crores has been sanctioned to promote seabuckthorn on serious interest shown by PM Modi on developing this plant for value addition. He also informed about Rs. 8 crores sanctioned to Horticulture Department under PMDP for solar driers.
He appreciated the all the staff of Health Department for their dedicated services and said that efforts are on to bring further improvement in health sector in the district. In education sector he said that Council is putting every resources and efforts to increase enrolment in government schools. He said that this year board results of government schools has also remained encouraging and urged for public cooperation and support in improving education standards in the district.

Yangchan Dolma VLW of Rural Development Dept. Leh, Stanzin Tsewang, Tamchos Dolma, Thukjay Dolma, Punchok Dolma and Rigzin Chondol were awarded with certificate and mementos for their extraordinary and dedicated works towards waste management through their engagement at waste segregation centre in Solar Colony, Choglamsar.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion by school students, Information Department and J&K Cultural Academy. Prices were then distributed by chief guest, CEC Dorjey Mutup to the position holders and consolation prizes in March Past and cultural programme.
In other Sub-divisional HQs, Tehsil HQs, Block HQs and Naibats of Leh district the 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervour and gaiety.
