UNHRC report on Kashmir finds no takers during general debate
six countries reject it, trashed earlier by India




Jammu, June 22, (Scoop News)-Two days back when separatist leaders submitted a memorandum to the office of Commissioner for human rights little did they know that not a single country came out in support of either Pakistan or UNHCR report on Kashmir.

India had earlier out rightly junked the report prepared by the commission and also questioned the timing and procedure for collection of data in the report itself. The modus operandi adopted for gathering the data for the report is also questionable. No cross verification of facts on the ground besides it also reflected individual biases and even media reports had sneaked into it,

Six countries, Cuba, Belarus, Mauritius, Afghanistan, Venezuela and Bhutan rejected the Kashmir report when it was being discussed during the General Debate on the overall update of the commission on the actions of his office at the Human rights Council.

Farukh Amil, a permanent representative at OHCHR made a fervent appeal on behalf of his country, Pakistan, to establish a commission of inquiry in Jammu and Kashmir. When he spoke on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), he had not much to elaborate.

Authored by Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the 49 page UNHCR report of Jammu and Kashmir also refers to a grim situation particularly in the valley and seeks a suitable perusal by the council said the envoy on behalf of OIC.

The UNHRC has demanded an inquiry into the alleged violations in Jammu and Kashmir including Pakistan Administered Kashmir. The report also carried the details f alleged human rights violations and misconducts on both sides of the border.

Surprisingly, the United States has pulled itself from the UNHRC last week charging the commission for being biased. They demanded a comprehensive reform of the organization. ...
