DCC holds protest rally against acute water shortage and inadequate power supply in town
demand black topping of roads.




Leh(Ladakh), June 21, (Scoop News)-Facing acute water shortage in the region, District Congress Committee (DCC)-Leh on Wednesday took out a protest rally to raise the issue in the town.

Hundreds of protesters led by DCC president, Tsering Samphel, carrying placards and chanting slogans against the Bharitya Janta Party (BJP) administered Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC).

The protest rally was also supported by the residents of Lower Leh who were facing acute water shortage for past few days as Public Health Engineering (PHE) water tanks failed to provide the water supply. The crisis got further multiplied when 340 daily wagers proceeded on a daylong strike over non disbursement of their wages for last 10 months.

Accusing the ruling party to solve the water crisis , DCC president addressed the gathering at Main Bazar said that BJP failed the gullible voters by making false promises and now fulfilled even basic requirement of potable water supply which never happened in the history of Ladakh.

He alleged that people of Ladakh had high expectation from Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to at least address one of the major issues of Ladakh but the failed to say any words during his both visits of Leh.

Speaking on the occasion, Rigzin Spalbar, former Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) LAHDC, said that if the present BJP dispensation can’t provide the provide with basic amenity of drinking water how can they get Union Territory (UT) status for the region. He said the voters had been fooled by giving them false promises.

Several other Congress leaders also addressed the gathering. Earlier, the rally started from Leh Gate and terminated near Main Bazar.

The leaders later on submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner urging immediate restoration of potable water supply and also make alternate arrangement through mobile tankers. They also sought an assurance from the district administration for uninterrupted supply of electricity besides black topping of the roads. ...
