| For students entrepreneurs programme, Khosa donates US $ five million to an American University | |
Jammu, March 20, (Scoop News)-Rattan Lal Khosa (79), who donated US $ five million to the University of Chicago to launch a student entrepreneurs programme after his name at the Polsky Centre, recalls of having just three dollars in his pocket when he landed in US.
Khosa, a Kashmiri Pandit, arrived in USA in 70’s and secured fellowship from the University of Maryland, had just three dollars in his pocket when he joined the university. He started his company AMSYCO in 1981 from the basement of his home.
Perseverance, hard work and skill helped Khosa’s venture to grow into profitable enterprise that provides post tensioning system on commercial structures at 50,000 square foot facility.
He said launching of a business from rags is like jumping off a cliff, blindfolded at midnight, hoping that there is a safety net down below.
He told media the day he wrote the cheque (US $ 5 million) for his new programme, he sat down, closed his eyes and thought about his first day in the country and how little he had on him. Expressing gratitude, Khosa said he feels modest and obliged to be able to give back and help the next generation.
Khosa said plans to serve as a guide and a mentor for those aspiring entrepreneurs so that his years of experience, his struggles and his successes might serve as an additional input to help these entrepreneurs to succeed.
He said, over 80 percent of enterprises fail within their first year even with those with sufficient capital money, however, based on his personal experience, everyone needed help or assistance in their lives, at some point in time, and no one had ever succeeded on their own.
