| Hundreds of devotees attend Spituk Gustor, monks hold prayers and mask dance | | 
Leh(Ladakh), January 16, (Scoop News)-Hundreds of devotees attended Spituk Gustor on its concluding day on Monday at Spituk Monastery where monks from nearby gonpas joined in performing special prayers.
The festival is celebrated on the 28th and 29th day of Chukshiki pa of Tibetan/ local calendar every year which coincided with 14th and 15th day of January this year. With bright sun on the horizon, the weather remained pleasant allowing people to congregate at the venue.
The monks also enacted mask dance to the tune of musical instruments and like bells, pipes, drums and cymbals epitomizing the triumph of good over the evil.
Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, participated in the burning of Storma (sacrificial cake) on the last day of the festival.
Prior to Gustor, the monastery held weeklong prayers for the peace, prosperity and development of the region. ... |
