Leh Council to promote rural tourism



Leh, December 09, (Scoop News)- The LAHDC, Leh with an objective of promoting tourism in the rural areas has initiated an innovative program with the topics of “Theme based tourism”, “ Introduction of Home Stay amongst un-employed youth” , “Negative Impact of Tourism” and Promotion of Winter Tourism” . Under this program one each village in different areas of Leh district have been identified that include Igoo in Kharu Sub Division, Yarma belt in Nubra sub division, Kanji in Khaltsi sub division and Tangtse in Durbuk sub division. To commence the program, an amount of Rs: 9.00 lacs has been earmarked under District Plan of the current year and as a gesture of encouragement in this trade, it is proposed to provide furnishing items of worth Rs: 40,000/= for one room by identifying five most deserving beneficiaries of these selected villages.
To make this program a result oriented especially for the rural un-employed youths, a committee of officers and experts under the aegis of Assistant Director Tourism was formed and the committee has conducted an awareness program for the people of Kanji today at Kanji.
On this occasion, the AD Tourism, Tsering Angmo giving a detail introduction of this program urged the people focussing on un-employed youths to come forward for establishing “Home Stay” keeping in mind opening the area for the tourists and its economic potential. Besides, she also highlighted other schemes under Tourism sector. The Tourist Officer, Leh Tsering Dolkar on this occasion made the people aware about the procedure of registering their Home Stay and other important documents which are basically needed to run a Home Stay. The former AD Tourism, Sonam Dorjey who is an expert in Tourism sector told in detail on the topic of positive as well as negative impact of tourism. He made the people acquainted about how to deal with the tourists in a good mannerism for overall interest of both the visitors and the hosts. Mr. Lobzang Khadup, Range Officer Leh also spoke on the occasion
It is to mention that a similar awareness programs were also conducted at Igoo on 29th of November and Yarma-Tongsted Nubra on 5th Dec.
On this occasion, the villagers thanked LAHDC and the expert team for holding the awareness camp on the concept of Home Stay in their village with assistance for establishing Home Stay.
