CUK’s SLS, DLSA holds essay competition

Srinagar, November 17, (Scoop News)- The School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in association with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, organised an essay competition on “Access to Justice Myth or Reality,” at Nowgam-I academic block of the varsity here.
The 4th Additional District Judge, Srinagar, Mr. Kamlesh Pandita, Mobile Magistrate, Mr. Pervez Iqbal, Head of the Department, Law, Dr. Sheikh Showkat,
DLSA Law Officer, Ms Raheela Tabasum, Panel Lawyer, DLS, Advocate Ms. Nousheen Bhat, faculty members and students of the varsity, University of Kashmir and other law colleges were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Kamlesh Pandita, asked them to organise legal awareness programmes in remote corners of the Jammu and Kashmir State and sensitize the people about their rights and different laws enacted in the State. He said that people residing at far off places in the Valley had inadequate knowledge about their legal rights and were thus suffering tremendously. “These people need to be properly informed and counselled so that they fight for their causes,” he said.
Mobile Magistrate, Mr. Pervez Iqbal, also spoke on the occasion and answered the questions of the participants. He underscored the need of holding legal awareness programmes across the length and breadth of the State.
Head of the Department, Law, Dr. Sheikh Showkat, while addressing the gathering, said the School of Legal Studies is continuously holding legal awareness activities in distant areas of the Valley. He said the students of the department are making every effort to sensitize the people about their legal rights.
The essay competition was won by Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Ganaie of the University of Kashmir while as second prize was bagged by Ms. Mahnashit Uzma of Law department CUK. The third prize was jointly shared by Mr. Waseeq ul Rasheed of Vitasta Law College and Ms. Madiha Mukhtar of CUK.
