National Mission on Saffron to get extension: S K Nayak
Trail run at Spice Park starts today

Srinagar, November 16, (Scoop News)- Principal Secretary to Government, Agriculture Production Department J&K State, Sandeep Kumar Nayak (IAS) convened a meeting of agriculture officers in Civil Secretariat Srinagar on Thursday.
The meeting will continue for three days in which all the districts of Kashmir division will participate. In the first meeting today Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts participated and reviewed their agricultural activates.
Besides Principal Secretary to Government, Agriculture Production Department J&K State, Director Agriculture Kashmir Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, Director Research SKUAST-K M.Y. Zargar, Saffron expert F.A. Nehvi, and Superintending Engineer (Mechanical) Kashmir Mushtaq Hussain Jan, Chief Agriculture officers of all the concerned districts and district officers were present in the meeting.
Sandeep Kumar Nayak informed the meeting that the government is intending to extend the National Mission on Saffron (NMS) for next five years, so that all the pending activities are completed and the saffron growers harvest the benefit of the mission for the decades to come. He averred that the Chief Minister of the state Mehbooba Mufti would plead for the extension of NMS before the Prime Minister of India soon.
He directed mechanical division to intensify the irrigation system in Saffron areas. The status of irrigation system as on date was discussed threadbare.
Principal Secretary announced that the trail run of Spice Park at Dussoo Pampore will start from 17th November under the technical supervision of Firdous Ahmed Nehvi.
He stressed upon all the officers to work effectively on RKVY schemes as the Government of India is making changes in the scheme and modifications are to boost the status of farmer. He urged the need to implement Mufti Mohammed Syed Programme in letter and spirit for the benefit of farming community.
Sandeep Kumar asked all the four Chief Agriculture Officers in the meeting to cultivate exotic vegetables in their areas. He directed Agriculture Officers to expand the area under vegetable cultivation, bee keeping and other activities.
The participants of the meeting hailed the work done by Agriculture Extensions Assistants in their respective districts.
