“Ishq Malangi” will be showcased in Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival: Mushtaq Kak

Jammu, October 22, (Scoop News)- “Amateur Theatre Group has been invited to showcase its most acclaimed and scintillating presentation “Ishq Malangi” by one of the largest theatre assemblies in the subcontinent, Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival in its 12th edition which is going to be held at Hyderabad in Telangana”, this was unveiled by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and Director ATG, Mushtaq Kak in a press conference, here today. The 10-day, multi-venue, multi-lingual festival this year will feature a host of the best plays from across the country and overseas.
The Theatre Festival will feature some of the best productions from across the country and will host 150 artistes, playwrights and technicians performing plays in multiple languages at various venues across the city for 10 days. Telangana`s flagship theatre festival is credited with Hyderabad`s theatre revival and it is curated by Padmashri recipient Mohammad Ali Baig to pay tribute to his father, Hindustani theatre legend Late Qadir Ali Baig saheb.
"Ishq Malangi" play portrays the tale of true and unconditional love during the era of 1940s when Jammu City was a small town with a red light area called as Urdu Bazar having few houses which were known as Kothas and frequented by the affluent sections of society for their entertainment through music and dance. Kak who has directed more than 100 plays in Dogri, Hindi, English and even in Sanskrit at various parts of the country and abroad stated that Ishq Malangi has already been staged at Mysore Theatre Festival and acclaimed as one of the outstanding presentations of Amateur Theatre Group.
Mushtaq Kak further stated that plays by Nadira Zaheer Babbar, Neelam Man Singh Chowdhry, Mushtaq Kak, Surabhi Theatre, Feisal Alkazi, Ila Arun, Manav Kaul and Mohammad Ali Baig and a concert by sitar maestro Anoushka Shankar with her 7-member orchestra from London, playing to the restored Indo-British-German film 'Shiraz' comprise this year’s line-up of meaningful and world-class plays will be added attraction of the fest. "Plays by Chekhov, Ibsen, Manto, Mahesh Dattani and others will comprise the mesmerizing line up of Hyderabad’s flagship theatre extravaganza", Kak added.
The festival is being presented by Karvy and co-sponsored by Shadan Group of Institutions, in association with Golden Jubilee Hotels, Information and Public Relations Government of Telangana, British Council and British Film Institute. It is mandatory to mention here that Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation has become synonymous with world-class theatre in Hyderabad incude Indian Classics, Broadway Hits, Tony Award Winners, Tragedies, Comedies, Period Spectacles, Social Satires, Mythology, Fantasy, Musicals, Dastaan-goi, Dance Theatre, Puppet Theatre, Circus Theatre, Monologues and Dialogues. Over 400 multi-lingual theatre evenings by some of the most respected names from across the country and overseas presented and performed by the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation for the period of last 10 years.
