Dilbag Singh reviews Civil Defence Awareness, disaster preparedness
Jammu, September 22, (Scoop News)-Commandant General Home Guards Civil Defence & SDRF at SDRF 2nd Battalian Jammu, Dilbag Singh today had a detailed review of Disaster Mitigation Capabilities of the unit along with CD awareness campaign.
During the meeting, all the field officers/Incharge of HG/CD and SDRF units were asked to inform about the status of Civil Defence awareness programs, SDRF trainings and rescue activities carried out by their respective units. It was informed that the Home guards / Civil Defence volunteers were enrolled and trained in large number and these volunteers along with district SDRF units participated in many rescue operations pertaining to accident victims, cross border firing victims, highway accidents and militancy victims. They also conveyed the limitations that they have in terms of training and rescue equipment, mobility / transport, living/ office accommodation etc.
It was informed that Chief Minister is taking proactive steps for Building Disaster Mitigation Capacity. She, recently, took a state level review meeting wherein arrangement for Disaster Mitigation funds has been made to provide Disaster Mitigation Authorities and State Disaster Response Force with required basic infrastructure and equipment. Procurement of required equipment for the District Disaster Response Force units shall be carried out on top priority as per instructions of Chief Minister.
Similarly, water rescue capabilities are being built in Kashmir Region in view of 2014 floods and for this purpose, various kinds of rescue boats are being made available besides training programs in water rescue have also been initiated in Dal Lake Srinagar.
The participants were assured that there would be no dearth of resources as the State Government is keen and Chief Minister is personally devoting attention to capacity building and rejuvenation of disaster mitigation.
Divisional Commandant Home Guards Jammu, SSP, Vikas Gupta, Commandant SDRF 2nd. Battalian Jammu, SSP, Rashmi Wazir and others officers attended the meeting.
