CUK’s 2-day Intl Conf on ‘Recovery Marketing Strategies for Tourist Destinations in Conflict Situations’ at Leh from Sept 8

Srinagar, August 21, (Scoop News)-To encourage scholars, academicians and industrialists to ponder and write about the relationship of “Conflict and Tourism” and come up with research papers, case studies, suggestions in order to improve the tourism activities of such destinations, the Department of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) is organising a 2-day International Conference on “Recovery Marketing Strategies for Tourist Destinations in Conflict Situations” at Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh Ladakh on September 8 and 9, 2017. Indian Tourism and Hospitality Congress (ITHC) and Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) are the collaborating partners for the Conference.
According to the organisers, "Recovery Marketing Strategies for Tourist Destinations in Conflict Situations" is an appropriate theme, which covers areas concerning Marketing, Sustainability, Media, Conflict, Peace, Crisis Management, Strategic & HR related issues of Tourism in Destinations marred with Conflict. “The conference aims at discussing the nuances of the relationship between Conflict and Tourism and how the future of Tourism can be safeguarded in places marred with conflict, with special reference to Kashmir which has been witnessing turmoil related issues from the past two decades. It also aims at discussing various possible strategies to re-model, re-brand Kashmir as a tourist destination in order to bring it back on the map of the best tourist destinations in South-Asia,” they said. The current conference aims to act as a host for such studies, thereby help in giving direction to the future tourism in the region, they added.
Some of the tracks/sub-thematic areas in the conference include: Role of community, tourists, DMO’s, agencies in promotion of tourism; importance of improving tourism product quality in conflict zones; pricing strategies to attract potential tourists to conflict tourism destination; finding avenues of using physical evidence as a tool of attracting tourists; people and their role as a community to replenish tourism in conflict zones; emerging trends, themes and innovations in Tourism with special reference to conflict situation; paradigm shifts in marketing of tourism & Revival of service sector in conflict zones; destination conflict and rebranding; destination Planning & Management; branding of unexplored destinations in conflict areas; service failure and marketing strategies; Revival of tourism –Post conflict; promoting sustainable tourism practices in conflict tourist destinations; community participation in sustainability and rekindle adventure, pilgrim, medical and cultural tourism.
The organising Committee of the conference includes Vice-Chancellor CUK, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir (Chief Patron), Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar (Patron), Dean School of Business Studies and Head of the Department Tourism Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz Ahmad (Conference Director) and Assistant Professor, Department of Tourism Studies, Mr. Faizan Ashraf Mir (Organising Secretary).
