| Kashmiris mourn killing of Pak terrorist | |

Thousands of Kashmiri youth in various parts of the valley recently mourned the killing of two A++ grade terrorists, one of them a Pakistani national and the other his local accomplice. One local civilian stone throwing youth also got killed in cross firing. Twenty-eight year old LeT commander Abu Dujana, originally from Gilgit-Baltistan, and his local accomplice Ghulam Nabi Dar of Lelihar in Pulwama district were gunned down when they refused to surrender to security forces during the siege of the house in Hakripora, Pulwama where the duo was hiding. They opened fire.
On the call given by the Hurriyat (G) leader, whose sons and son-in-law are booked by NIA for charges of accumulating over 150 crore rupees worth properties through hawala money, the valley went on strike. Students of numerous educational institutions across the valley swarmed the streets, pelted stones on the police and security forces compelling them to control the mobs trying to disrupt law and order in the state.
The call for total strike given by Hurriyat G chief, apparently to mourn the killing of Abu Dujana but actually purported to make good the loss of his inability to give a call for strike in protest of the arrest of seven persons including his son and son-in-law about a fortnight ago by the NIA for charges of money laundering. Twenty-eight year old LeT Commander Abu Dujana hailing from Gilgit- Baltistan carried a prize of 15 lakh rupees on his head. He had sneaked into the valley in 2010 and had been carrying out attacks on and bombing and killing of police personnel and security forces in various attacks mostly in Pulwama district. His group also carried out a number of bank robberies. The crowds who came out on the streets to obstruct operation against this criminal indirectly stand for violence and overt support to crime. They think it their religious duty to support the criminals and murderers because they are operating against the kafirs. To them, Kashmir is a zone of Islamic war (darul harb). Geelani, the Hurriyat leader, justifies illegally amassed enormous wealth by his sons or any other Muslim in Kashmir by saying that in darul harb, a Muslim and a jihadi are justified in looting the wealth of the kafirs as maal-i-ghanim or enemy property.
Assuming that they are in a State of War (darul harb) then the State will try all means to meet the challenge to its integrity. We cannot predict what those “all means” of the State could be. For example, It could be isolating these villages for different than the normal treatment in which civic facilities maybe reduced or denied and some curbs imposed on the movement of men and material, all in the interests of the integrity of the State and not out of vengeance. This was the practices adopted by the conquering Arab forces in their war with Iran. The striking students could forfeit right to education by the State invoking the law of rustication against unwanted elements in an educational institution. The logic of a law enforcing State does not permit the dichotomy to go on without reaction or action.
We don’t mean to be hostile to the student community in Kashmir but we certainly want them to make some honest and candid introspection. In its issue of August 5, the Times of India gave a small news item on the front page in which parts of mobile message of Lalihari to his family was recorded minutes before he was gunned down. Lalihari had implored his family members not to wrap his dead body in Pakistani flag (as is the practice of all terrorists killed in Kashmir) but with the flag of Osama bin Laden’s al- Qaeda. Why he told them not to wrap his body in Pakistani flag is a question answered by Du Jana minutes before his killing to the army officer who had persuaded him to surrender if he wanted to save his life. He had told the army officer that he knew “Pakistan was playing game with them and that there was no jihad in Kashmir”.
What Lalihari said meant that they were not fighting for Pakistan but for Al-Qaeda. Earlier LeT commander Zakir Musa had explicitly distanced himself from the 70-year-old independence movement in the valley saying that the jihad in Kashmir was neither for Kashmir’s freedom nor for secession from India and accession to Pakistan but it was for the Islamic Caliphate. This reflects the new phase of Kashmir insurgency meaning that Kashmir uprising now stands linked to ISIS. For quite some time ISIS flags were hoisted at some places in Kashmir.
This brings us to the question of what is the perception of Islamic Caliphate ideologues about the uprising in Kashmir. Their concept is drawn from the Islamic tradition which speaks about Ghazavatu’l Hind meaning the Islamic campaign (war) against India. According to the intelligence agencies, al Qaeda is making inroads into India, sowing the seeds of a “final war” across the country, through mobilization of its resources for jihad. The ideological goal of the terrorist organization, according to a detailed report is Ghazwa-e-Hind, or the final battle in India. Ghazwa-e-Hind refers to an indoctrinated view of a final apocalyptic war and the term is used by jihadi circles, even on the web. The intelligence report further adds that the al-Qaeda network, which was created by Arab rebels, is now having fresh recruits from Kashmir-centric groups. “Not only Kashmiri groups but Taliban and al-Qaeda affiliates have stakes in the larger scheme of Ghazwa-e-Hind where India is regarded as next battleground in the ‘End of Times’ battle. This ideology is likely to be used to drive Taliban and al-Qaeda affiliates into Kashmir,” the intelligence report says. Kashmiri groups have also access to an online English publication of al Qaeda called Azan. The publication is being circulated via emails and encryption tools.
In the meantime, the Pakistani Taliban group – Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has also declared to open offices in Kashmir, with media reports suggesting a Taliban flag was put up on the walls of Kashmir’s Hari Parbat fort with slogans reading “Welcome Taliban”. The al-Qaeda network recently released a video urging youths from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and South India to join them for jihad.”
In this scenario, the question arises how will the managers of Islamic Caliphate treat those who are making inroads into Kashmir through fidayeen like Burhan Wani, Du Jana, Qasim, Musa and others, treat Hurriyatis who are prompting Kashmiris to fight Indians either for accession to Pakistan (Hurriyat G) or for ‘independent Kashmir’ (Hurriyat M) or the Hizbul Mujahideen – the Pakistan sponsored armed gangsters in Kashmir who have made the largest contribution in destruction of Kashmiri youth and intellectuals. Does it not portend a terrible civil war and horrendous inter-factional feud in Kashmir that may consume not only the innocent but also the cream of the society?
Before concluding, I must point towards one more disturbing factor of Kashmir insurgency. Mourners of the death of Pakistani terrorist should try to understand whose death they or their young ones are mourning by going on strikes and throwing stones on security men? The IGP Kashmir says that liquidation of Abu Dujana has brought relief to the daughters of respectable families of the area of his operation. Do the Hurriyat leaders and the parents of these innocent daughters of our motherland understand what the responsible police officer has said? Where are self-respect, modesty and Kashmiriyat? It appears as if everything is sacrificed for Pakistan.
