Lt Gen PJS Pannu, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps was the chief guest. Lt Gen Pannu inaugurated the Mela in presence of senior civilian and police dignitaries who attended the function.

If machines tempted the crowd, no less exhilarating was the skill of the men. The one and a half hour function got off to a glittering start with band display by soldiers of the Fire and Fury Corps.

The seven silvery tunes played by the band captivated everyone at the packed Stadium. Guests on the occasion included members of civil administration, DIG ITBP and chief engineer HIMANK.

The age-old Sikh art of self-defence ‘GATKA’ with 18 different weapons and KHUKRI dance was overwhelmingly cheered by the crowed.

The other captivating event was the performances of a Dog Show of Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC), Leh, which mesmerised the audience by performing several feats including high jumps, obstacle crossing, jumping through fire ring and crossing a Burma Bridge.

The mela was also aimed to introducing the achievements of the Indian Army in an effort to attract local youth to the defence forces.

This activity showcased the Indian Army’s military might with a humane touch, especially for the people of Ladakh and also inspired the awam to join the armed forces....
