Alleged child abuse infuriates Ladakh civil society,
demand strict action against erring warden, DC terms gruesome incident as rarest case


Leh(Ladakh), June 24, (Scoop News)-Hundreds of students drawn from different schools and civil society members held a peaceful protest rally here against the alleged sexual abuse of a six year old boy by his hostel warden at Shey Lamdon Middle School, eyewitness said.


The rally, in which the members of Civil Society Alliance (SCA) on Child Rights also participated, started from Chokhang Vihara, passed through main market and ended at Polo Ground. Religious leaders including president Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) Tsewang Thinles, president Christian Association Dechen Chamga, Anjuman Imamiya president Ashraf Ali Barcha and vice president Anjuman Moin ul Islam Dr Noor Din. They addressed the gathering at Polo Ground.


They sought stringent punishment against the erring warden and also demanded constitution of a fast track court for speedy delivery of justice to the victim’s family. Later on they went to deputy commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum.


They urged the district authorities to intervene in the case and initiate strict action against the culprits and deliver justice to the victim’s family. They also pleaded with the administration to take appropriate measures to protect his identity and safeguard the victim’s future.


The SCA members urgently sought training to the teachers in all schools including boarding institutions, implementation of ICPS in the region besides counseling facilities to the child student by the education department.


Deputy Commissioner, Prasanna Ramaswamy G, termed the gruesome incident as rarest case and assured that justice will be meted out to the victim’s family. He added the guilty would not spared..


Prasanna said law will give exemplary punishment to the perpetrator that would set an example in the society. He also assured that he would get it probed that who had allowed the child to stay with accused warden. ...
