| Girl students hold massive protest in Kargil, demand basic facilities in their school | |
Kargil (Ladakh), May 26, (Scoop News)-Hundreds of girl students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHHS) protested on Thursday demanding basic facilities such as library, laboratory, first aid centre, drinking water and replacement of their principal.
They took out a protest march from their school which culminated at Lal Chowk where the students held a massive protest and raised slogans against the local administration for their failure in delivering the basic facilities to them in the school.
The protest caused huge traffic snarl in the Himalayan town. Students warned the concerned authorities if their demands were not met in a week’s time then they will again take to streets and will also involve social organizations.
During the protest, both civil administration and police tried to persuade the students to return to their school and appealed them to call off the strike but the students did not relent. They (students) insisted that for calling off the protest demonstration, let local executive councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) for education come forward and redress their demands. The protest continued for over two hours.
The protesting students argued that on one hand the authorities echo the slogan of ‘Beti Bachao and Beti Padao’ and on other side there is no basic facilities including sanitation available to girl students in the school.
Being the only Girls Higher Secondary School in the entire district, the male principal does not pay any attention on any legitimate demand of the students. They demanded that their foremost demand is the replacement of the present incumbent with a female principal at the earliest.
Later, executive councilor, Advocate Amir and additional deputy commissioner, Kacho Turab visited the place and assured the protesting students that their demands will be fulfilled very soon.... |
