APHC condemns continuous detention of Mirwaiz, terms it as frustration of ruling class




Srinagar, March 22, (Scoop News)-Condemning the continuous house detention and curbs on religious activities of APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the spokesman of APHC has termed it as the frustration of ruling regime which is bent upon to restrict and curb the peaceful activities of the separatist leadership.

He said that the rulers, in order to carry out the process of sham elections has put the whole population of Kashmir on the mercy of government forces and on the other is not allowing the separatist leadership to put forward their views before the people.

Meanwhile, the Convener of the Azad Kashmir chapter of APHC, Faiz Naqashbandi led a high level delegation of Hurriyat leaders including Shamima Shawl and Amjad Yousuf to attend the 34th session of UNHRC held in Geneva.

The delegates held meetings with various officials of the UN and representatives of other international organization during which they apprised them about the various facets of vexed Kashmir dispute including the ongoing political and human rights situation in Kashmir.

The notable UN officials who met the hurriyat delegates include UN special rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly, Maina Kiai, Special rapporteur on minority issues, Ritika Izak-ndiaye, Special representative of the of the secretary-general for children and armed conflict Leila Zerroughi and other representatives of the international body.

During the meeting, the hurriyat delegates apprised Maina kiai about the curbs and restriction being imposed on the social, political and religious activities of Kashmiris.

Referring to the time and again of APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the delegates told the rapporteur that the government has imposed curbs on his social, political and religious activities, adding, despite being the religious head cleric of Kashmir.

They further told the UN rapporteur that the state was utilizing all the draconian methods to restrict the peaceful political activities of pro-freedom leadership. Besides, they told the UN representative that the state was using different means to weaken the resistance centric politics of Kashmiris.

In another meeting, they told the rapporteur that government forces have a license to kill innocent at mere suspicion, they are allowed to do anything what they like with Kashmiris even as they are using anti-democratic and anti-people means to suppress people so that they retreat from their demand for right to self determination promised to them by the United Nations.

Stressing upon the UN representatives to play their role in stopping the gross human rights violations by the Indian forces and aggressive policy adopted by the state against the resistance leadership, the hurriyat delegates told them that the international body should intervene and take substantive steps to solve the political dispute of Kashmir according to the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris.

On the occasion, Hurriyat delegates also issued the special report compiled by the APHC regarding the year 2016 peoples uprising.

Expressing satisfaction over the political and diplomatic activities of hurriyat delegation in Geneva, Mirwaiz, who continues to be under house arrest, hoped that UN would take step to fulfill its moral obligation.

He said that it is the responsibility of UN to solve Kashmir in its proper political and historical context, adding, we are hopeful that UN will use its offices to prevent Indian state from imposing restrictions on the peaceful activities of resistance leadership in Kashmir....
