Security forces advised to draw a line between protests in a democratic way and manipulators of situation during CI operations
and remain resolute in dealing situation with ‘firm fists’


Jammu, February 19, (Scoop News)-Despite differences between various political parties over moot remarks made by the army chief, Gen Bipin Rawat, about tackling of protesters during counter insurgency operations between the security forces and terrorists in roiled Kashmir, in past few months.


“We are giving them an opportunity. Should they want to continue (to do what they are doing), then we will continue with relentless operations may be with harsher measures. And that is the way to continue,” Gen Rawat had told media.


Following the Army General’s warning of tough action against those obstructing counter insurgency operations, the authorities in the north Himalayan state have asked public to stay away from the places of encounters between security forces and militants and decided to impose prohibitory orders in the radius of three kilometers from such sites in three districts.


“The district administration of Srinagar, Badgam and Shopian districts advised people not to move towards or assemble near the places where encounters take place between security forces and terrorists to avoid loss and injuries to precious human lives,” said an official spokesperson.


“Our objective is to liquidate as many Pakistani terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir as possible and demoralize the militant ranks before the onset of spring,” said a senior army official, requesting not to be named as he is not officially authorized to speak to media.


The recent (Feb 14) counter terrorist operation was based on a specific tip off from a dependable source. “Our hunch is that the information had got leaked to terrorists beforehand and we are verifying it,” he added.


Provoking people to take to streets is a tactic and a game plan of the terrorists and their gurus across the border, first create a situation where in the holed up militants can make a good escape he said adding as far as security forces are concerned they should draw a line between protesters and protests in a democratic way and hampering the under the grab of protests.


However, the official said, an extra constraint is required to be maintained between those protests held in a democratic way and any contrived manipulation of the situation by vested elements.
