Legal proceedings against Columnist by NC Spokesperson
‘There is no glory in misquoting and lying – even for self-righteous moralists’
Srinagar, February , (Scoop News)-National Conference State Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu has on Friday initiated legal proceedings against a columnist Mr. Hassan Zainagiri for misquoting him and attributing fictional and imaginary quotes to him in a column written in a leading and reupted newspaper of the State, the Daily Greater Kashmir.
The legal notice, issued through Advocate Syed Faisal Qadri and Associates, asks Mr. Zainagiri to pay damages to the tune of Rupees Two Crores for libel and defamation and also simultaneously apologize for misquoting the NC Spokesperson in his write-up, failing which appropriate legal proceedings should be initiated against the writer at his own cost.

“While self-proclaimed, self-righteous moral pall-bearers of wisdom have every right to pass moral judgments and partake in petulant and obnoxious name-calling, they have no right to mislead the readers by peddling lies and misquoting people. Two quotes have been attributed to me by Mr. Zainagiri in his column and through the legal notice I have asked Mr. Zainagiri to prove on what basis he has attributed those quotes to me”, the NC Spokesperson said after the legal notice was initiated this evening.

The NC Spokesperson said that quite ironically the columnist has himself referred to an archived edition of a daily newspaper while referencing a quote wrongly attributed to him. “Irony is that the columnist has himself quoted a source – the 26th Feb, 2013 edition of Daily Greater Kashmir – which clearly doesn’t include any such statement or comment from me. Seems like Mr. Zainagiri was in such a hurry to further his own agenda and narrative that he didn’t allow the truth to come in his way. Another quote attributed to me has been made by a different individual – but these sadly are factual nuances that are irrelevant to those who want to peddle lies under the garb of moral self-righteousness. Lying is a disservice to every cause”, the NC Spokesperson added.

“If the columnist fails to publicly apologize and retract his disingenuous and wrong attributions that he has made to me and also pay the damages, we will move to the honorable courts seeking appropriate charges be framed against him under the relevant statutes of the law”, the NC Spokesperson added.

“Personal attacks and ad hominem tirades don’t amount to courage and integrity but indicate the complete lack of these traits in the individual. The youth of Kashmir have been exploited by these ivory-tower, self-righteous sermonizers who have turned this conflict into a spectator sport - where sacrifices are glorious just as long as they are far removed from suffering and struggle themselves. They have taken it upon themselves to issue moral certificates and engage in the most vitriolic and obnoxious behavior under the cloak of the sanctity that comes with the sentiment they pretend to espouse. Those who habitually engage in lying, misquoting and misrepresenting facts cannot be remotely connected to a righteous cause”, the NC Spokesperson added.
