Leh (Ladakh), February, (Scoop News)-District unit of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)-Leh held protest demonstrations against the Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials at Kaushak Bakula Rimpoche Airport at Leh and blocked both arrival and departure gates.
They raised slogans against officials of AAI for their inefficient handling of passengers giving a negative impression to foreign tourists visiting the region. They also complained that the central heating system remains off due to the reasons best known to the officials manning the airport.
“The officials have failed in all respects to offer minimum service required for such airports, the public facilities within the complex are in bad shape, filthy and are not regularly cleaned besides illegal collection of entry fee” they alleged.
The protesters claimed that Director AAI, Sonam Narboo owned the responsibility for the grievances and assured them to resolving all the issues in the near future.
He also promised to waive off charging rupees 50 as entrance fee to the private cars with immediate effect. Narboo also assured of immediate restoration of central heating system besides maintaining cleanliness in and around the complex, the protesters maintained.
They later on called on deputy commissioner, Prasana Ramaswami and submitted a memorandum to him who assured the protesters to convene a meeting between all stakeholders including airport security and airlines officials on Thursday at 3 pm to resolve the problem. ... |
