Mirwaiz thanks British Parliamentarians for raking up Kashmir issue in House of Commons
welcomes their statement on self determination

Srinagar, January 20, (Scoop News)-APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday welcomed the British Parliamentarians statement that people of Kashmir should be given the right of self-determination to determine their own future in accordance with the provisions of the UN Security Council resolutions just like it was given to British people in the form of brexit vote.

Mirwaiz said holding a referendum is the most transparent and democratic way to determine people's will and give them a fair chance express their choice. It is a simple way of resolving disputes avoiding wars and human sufferings and moving towards peace and progress.

Referring to outgoing US national security adviser Ms Susan Rice warning that nuclear powered India and Pakistans constant skirmishes over Kashmir can lead to catastrophic scenarios globally, Mirwaiz said this recognition of the Kashmir dispute and its disastrous global ramifications makes its resolution all the more urgent.

APHC leader said let better sense prevail upon the leadership of the subcontinent and let us resolve the issue once for all and save our current and future generations from a life of uncertainty mistrust and animosity.

Addressing the Friday congregation at Jama Masjid Srinagar Mirwaiz termed the detention of hundreds of youth, children and elderly Kashmiris held in jails, police stations and detention centres in and outside the State in the biting cold of chilling winter as the worst form of political vendetta exhibited by the ruling class.

He said the government had no moral authority to detain these people in jails and police stations in fake cases and strongly denounced the alleged detention of a 75-year-old person at Kupwara jail and demanded immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners and detainees.

Paying tributes to ‘Gaw Kadal incident’ on its 27th anniversary, he said the security forces were involved in alleged incidents like Gaw Kadal including Handwara, Kupwara, Bijbehara, Hawal, Sopore and other incidents.

APHC leader asked people to beware of the certain unscrupulous elements trying to create discord among the people and to break unity among them for their petty ulterior motives. Warning these elements and miscreants to stay away from indulging in any activity around the historic mosque that could fan sectarian unrest.

He made it clear that the pulpit of Jama Masjid had always stood for unity and brotherhood and that this historic Masjid was not a Masjid for any particular sect but the religious centre for all Muslims.
