Lawmaker from Nubra demands district level status to his region
indifferent attitude of authorities causes great inconvenience to people, LSA Chandigarh celebrate its ‘Silver Jubilee’ and Losar


Jammu/Nubra, January 18, (Scoop News)-In a significant development Congress Party lawmaker from Nubra constituency of Ladakh region, Delden Namgyal, Wednesday demanded a district level status for his region following state government’s indifferent attitude towards the most under developed area.


“We want a district level status for our region and we don’t want to be administered by a bureaucrat miles away from us. It is most under developed area and deserves a district level administration to attend to the grievance and needs of the people,” he said.


Namgyal was reacting to the written response of his question in the state legislative assembly by the chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also minister in-charge General Administration Department, that non Ladakhi employees in the state government were reluctant to perform duties in the cold desert region and manage to get their transfer orders modified or cancelled thereby creating numerous problems for the people of the region.


“The post of SDM will be filled up shortly,” the chief minister said while replying to lawmakers question, without specifying any time frame for issuing posting order.

It may be recalled that the government vide order no 80-GAD of 2016 dated January 29, 2016 posted one Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officer as Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nubra.


However, the officer on the ground of being medically unfit and could not join and was accordingly he was attached in the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.


Again on May 20 last year another officer was posted as SDM vide order no 532-GAD of 2016. He too got a medical certificate wherein he was declared unfit for high altitude posting. He was transferred and adjusted in another department in Jammu.

Thereafter GAD chose not to make any attempt to fill up the post of SDM Nubra as such the same is lying vacant during past over one year.


Meanwhile, Ladakh Students Association (LSA) Chandigarh in conjunction with Live to Love celebrated its silver jubilee cum Losar festival on the theme ‘Diversity and Harmony.’


A series of events by students were performed which included cake cutting ceremony, Ladakh Scouts Orchestra , Kampa Sumtrak and award ceremony.


Speaking on the occasion, LSA president, Jigmit Rabstab, touched upon various challenges faced by the students while studying out of Ladakh. He also spoke about LSA medical aid service where students offer voluntary service to scores of patients coming to Chandigarh for treatment. ...
