Jan seeks review of MGNREGA; calls for prioritizing public utility works

Jammu, January 17, (Scoop News)- Jammu and Kashmir Youth National Conference on Tuesday sought review of works taken under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA and called for prioritizing schemes prioritized by the people as per local needs.

In a statement, Youth National Conference Provincial President Ajaz Jan said that the people of rural pockets of Jammu province, especially Rajouri and Poonch district, have a genuine grouse about implementation of MGNREGA during the past nearly two years, as the works are not conceived as per the requirements of the area but as per the convenience of vested interests.

"Keeping in view the growing public apprehensions, a survey is needed to be carried out through special and impartial squads to verify whether the projects and works, for which funds have been drawn, stand on ground or not”, " Mr Jan said adding that widespread complaints from public from various areas raise doubts about the implementation of the scheme.

Mr Jan further stated that the concerned Minister, who has so far failed in bringing transparency in the implementation of the scheme, must realize his responsibilities and ask the Rural Development Department to accord priority to those works which have been put in plan after public consensus sought during public meetings.

"Plans devised on the basis of public consensus should be taken up on priority rather than those which are projected and reflected as per convenience of some vested interests for obvious reasons ", Mr Jan said, adding that party politics and malafide intentions should not be allowed to foil the purpose of the scheme, which is corner stone for achieving optimum development in rural areas, as per requirement of a particular are and aspirations of the people.
