Refresher Course in Disaster Management gets under way at Jammu University

Jammu, December 07, (Scoop News)- Three week inter disciplinary refresher course on Disaster Management for university and college teachers being organized by the Human Resource development Centre- HRDC, Jammu University in collaboration with the Disaster Management Centre of JU commenced here today. The course was formally inaugurated by Mr Amir Ali, Director, Disaster Management Authority of J&K Government while Sh Pradeep Dutta , Bureau Chief ,Times Now News, J&K was the Guest of Honour at the Inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion Sh Amir Ali highlighter the various initiatives being taken by the J&K Government in order to make disaster management more responsive and effective. He also called upon the participating teachers to generate awareness about different community and individual initiatives that can reduce such disasters. He laid special emphasis on the lessons learnt from the recent floods and earthquakes that occurred in the State.
Sh Pradeep Dutta in his address enlightened the participants about the role of Media in Disaster management. He also quoted many personal instances that he experienced as a Journalist while covering the floods and border shelling on J&K border.
Earlier Prof SK Pandita, Director JU Disaster Management Centre & Course Coordinator welcomed the guests and the teachers to the UGC course. Prof Naresh Padha, Director HRDC, in his address gave an overview about the Refresher Course course and its academic and societal utility.
Prof Pankaj Srivastava, HOD Geology Department in his address underlined the need for more concerted effort in dealing with disasters. He also talked about the need for formulating Disaster Management and evacuation plan for strategic university buildings and installations.
Sh Ranjeet kalra, faculty member from HRDC proposed a formal vote of Thanks on the occasion. Around 48 teachers from colleges and universities both within and outside the state are participating in the three week UGC sponsored course.
