Chospa Creations holds premier show of ‘Jigsten’
dignitaries present show respect for ‘national anthem’ by standing up before screening of Ladakhi feature film

Leh (Ladakh), December 4, (Scoop News)-Following the Apex Court’s direction, it was a proud moment for the patriotic people of Ladakh to pay respect to National Anthem at the premier show of a local feature film ‘Jigsten’ at community hall of Deskit Tsal in Leh.
Dignitaries including councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) were among scores of other guests who were present on the premier show.
Jigsten, literally meaning ‘Samsara’ has been directed by Tsering Mutup Chospa and produced by Chospa Creations, is based on a story portraying worldly sufferings, a fundamental of Buddhist philosophy, of cause and effect and Karma. One of his earlier films ‘Lzadol’ had bagged a best film award for Mutup Chospa at the Ladakh International Film Festival in 2013. Over the years, he has produced several films, tele- films and musical albums.
Changchub Phyang and Zangpo Serthi are the music composers of the film ‘Jigsten’ and the playback singers include Tashi Chosphel, Padma Dolkar, Tsering Chorol and Dorjay Stakmo.

Executive Councilor, Tsering Wangdus, felicitated the artists of the film with ‘Khataks’ while P. Wangdan, councilor from the lower Leh, greeted the supporting crew and other production members.

Film makers of Leh had been consistently appealing LAHDC to put up a ‘state of the art’ theatre where films could be reviewed and screened. At present feature films are being screened in community halls only as the town’s lone auditorium is in a dilapidated condition.

Wangdus, however, assured that decision to build an auditorium will be taken soon and said he would take up the issue with the Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), Dr Sonam Dawa, after his return to office.

‘Chespai Khachat’ was the first Ladakhi feature film and was released over 26 years ago in 1990 and ‘Megehu’, ‘Delwa’ and Tsesems continue to be popular feature films among the local people even today, surprisingly, many years after their releases.

Notwithstanding, technological limitations and lack of facilities, local film makers have been proficient in their field and have produced over 50 films so far. Nearly 35 production houses are operating under the aegis of ‘Ladakh Media and Cultural Society’ at present.
