| World Heart Day-DDC joins Walkathon on ‘World Heart Day’ | | Udhampur, September 29, (Scoop News)-The district administration Udhampur in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super-specialty Hospital, Katra today organized a “Walkathon” to mark World Heart Day.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Niraj Kumar, flagged off the Walkathon from Mini stadium Udhampur. He also joined other participants for the Walkathon
Aimed at promoting the importance of physical exercises in fighting various Cardiovascular diseases, the Walkathon witnessed participation of people from all walks of life including school and college students, sports personnel, military personnel, members of Chamber of Commerce, district officers, senior citizens. The event commenced from mini stadium and after passing through Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, Gole Market, main baazar and Salathia Chowk finally culminated at DC Office Complex.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the objective of organizing such a walkathon is to create awareness among the people about the rise in the number of cardiovascular diseases in the state. He further said that the CVD are the leading cause of deaths across the world, including India. While the risk of acquiring CVD increases with age, unhealthy lifestyle factors such as poor diet and lack of physical activity today are making younger people prone to the disease, he added. He urged all the participants to promote running and exercise as part of daily life to keep their heart healthy.
