| 'Clean Leh' drive flagged off by Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama | | 
Leh, August 24(Scoop News)-The Swachh Bharat Mission gets an added movement in Ladakh as Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama today flagged off a cleanliness drive from Jivetsal Choglamsar. Initiated by the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo such cleanliness drive will be carried out in entire district in days to come.
Lead by CEC Dr. Dawa, the drive comprising of Executive Councilor for Tourism Tsering Sandup, Councilor Phyang Punchok Dorjey, people of Choglamsar, Tashi Gytsal, Kharnakling, students of EJM College Leh and staff members of Rural Development Department, Leh headed by ACD Leh Tsering Paldan, the cleanliness drive start from Jivetsal Choglamsar and culminated at Choglamsar bazaar
Addressing the gathering at Choglamsar Bazar, CEC read the message of Dalai Lama which reads “I am happy to learn that the Swachh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister of India in October 2014 is being implemented in Ladakh as an initiative of the district administration and the LAHDC, Leh. The broad campaign aims to accelerate efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage in all rural areas of India and to put much needed focus on sanitation. I offer my prayers and this initiative will be a great success and that yours efforts encourage others in allowing access to sanitation for all people in Ladakh.”
Expressing great happiness over the lunching of Swachh Bharat Abhyan from the august hands of His Holiness, Dr. Dawa said that we are very lucky to start the cleanliness drive with the blessings and directions of Dalai Lama and hoped that entire people of Ladakh will join in making the Swachh Bharat Mission successful in every respect. He further said that until and unless every individual inculcate a sense of responsibility about cleanliness, we can’t dream of a Swachh Bharat and urged every responsible citizens of Ladakh including non locals living in Ladakh to treat every single day as Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan to achieve "Clean India" mission.
Dr. Jigmet Yangchan, Scientist SKAUST in her address appealed the people of Ladakh to give utmost value to water which is getting reduced and polluted in the age of global warming.
Earlier, welcoming the District Panchyat Officer , Leh highlighted the Swachh Bharat Mission Scheme and said that the program is being implemented in entire country with the vision to achieve the dream of Nirmal Bharat by 2019.
