As a part of the programme monks and scholars from various monasteries participated in dharma debate ‘Tasnnit’ competitions. Surprisingly, donation and sponsor for teaching session poured in from large number of faithful. LBA members, volunteers, security personnel and students worked day and night to ensure a smooth continuation of the sermon. Jevestal wore a festive look with dozens of stalls set up and catering to different customers.

Hundreds of monks and general devotees led by Galdan Tri Rimpochey besides Tsewang Thinles, president LBA, also offered ‘Stenjuk’ to Dalai Lama and prayed for his longevity and good health.

“Every living being needs happiness including animals therefore, respecting others and understanding their problem create happiness,” the spiritual leader said while expressing about the benefits of Bodhitta. He said the spirit of awakening motivates the Bodhisattava way of life and explains the means of cultivating and sustaining this altruistic aspiration.

Mentioning about the cause of suffering the spiritual head said those desiring to escape from suffering hasten right toward suffering. He satisfies with all joys those who are starving for happiness and eliminates all the sorrows of who are afflicted in many ways.

“Every prayer does not depend upon faith, prayer has to be understood properly and we should have a clear mind and spirit to attain teachings,” Dalai Lama said in his sermon.

Appealing the devotees particularly the monks and nuns not to have blind faith without studying Buddhist scriptures and philosophy, spiritual leader said, adding wearing robes of monks and adhering to monastic ritual may help in the propagation of Dharma teachings but it won’t help in substance of Buddhism to have a meaningful life.

“From the beginning, we are befriended with ignorance about reality of things and we absorb self cherishing act now due to Buddha teaching, we are awakening from sleep of ignorance,” he said, adding “we should practice Bodhichitta, the altruistic thought to help other to focus on enlightenment of Buddhahood.

Dalai Lama reiterated that Buddhism has connection with science and said that in the twentieth century scientists focused on external matter but towards 21st century, scientists also started giving importance to internal emotions, which affects, the physical aspect of our body.

Referring to teaching session in Moscow in 1979, the Buddhist spiritual leader talked about the importance of mental happiness and people refused to accept it saying that he was giving Buddhist teaching sermons but now they accept the reality that mental status affects the physical status.

“The more we practice altruism to help others, the more we benefit ourselves as this helps us to live longer with peace of mind,” Dalai Lama said, adding “in this way, we will be able to serve humanity for longer period of time.”

“When we practice Budhichitta to help others we have short term and long term benefits like taking rebirth in the higher realms of birth cycle wheel of life and short term benefit of peaceful mind which results into healthy body,” the spiritual leader asserted.

“We have negative instinct of harming others and right from childhood we all are under the influence of negative emotion such as killing insects and harming others which happens due to our past Karma or habituation with negative attitude”, he preached.

Dalai Lama during his religious sermon exhorted Buddhists for adopting vegetarian diet and refrain from consuming alcohol for the sake of themselves, keeping in mind its deep rooted problems in every sphere of life. He also called upon the faithful to be sincere and compassionate human beings for the universal peace and promotions of brotherhood.
