No subject specific teacher selected by SSB: Naeem Akhtar

Srinagar, June 30 (Scoop News)- Education Minister , Naeem Akhtar today said that Service Selection Board (SSB) selects teachers in General Line Teacher (GLT) only and not as subject specific. He, however, said Sanskrit is taught by General Line Teachers’ proficient in Sanskrit, as is the case for other languages —Urdu, Kashmir and Dogri.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Vibodh Gupta in the Upper House.
Naeem Akhtar said that the Lecturers are subject specific and there are 46 posts of Sanskrit Lecturers sanctioned in Jammu Division, out of which 37 posts are filled and 9 posts are lying vacant which includes 2 vacant posts in Rajouri. Besides, five posts in the discipline of Sanskrit have been referred to PSC under direct recruitment quota, he added.
The Minister said that the Higher Education Department offers under Graduate courses in which Sanskrit forms a part of Arts Subject. He said that at present Sanskrit is taught in 20 Government Degree Colleges as a full-fledged language subject. In district Rajouri there are two Government Degree Colleges at Rajouri and Sunderbani where Sanskrit is taught as a part of Arts stream. He said that two posts of Assistant Professor in Sanskrit also stand sanctioned in favour of these colleges though both these posts are not filled by permanent faculty, but students are being taught by the faculty engaged through Academic Arrangement.
He said that the Higher Education Department has referred 1651 posts of Assistant Professor in different subject which include 8 posts in the subject of Sanskrit to the PSC for making selections of eligible candidates.
The Minister further said that Sanskrit subject has been introduced in Government Degree College, Nowshera also.
