AMRUT Mission celebrates in Leh

Srinagar, June 25 (Scoop News)- The first anniversary of the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) Mission was celebrated in Leh with the rest of the states in India. The program was organised by Municipal Committee Leh and the participants includes school students and women representatives of all social and religious organisations. The program started with an introductory talk about AMRUT by to the participants in MC, Leh conference hall followed by a city walk in Leh main bazaar holding banner.
The program then continued at Malpak community hall, Leh where the participating group of students and women were joined by area residents, Leh and surrounding area Namberdars and Councilor Upper Leh- Gen. Lobzang Nyantak who was the main guest on the occasion. Ex-en R&B, Dorjay Gyatso and Dr. Zaida Bano, Administrator Municipality, Leh were leading the programme and arrangements were made where live telecast of PM Narendra Modi’s main event of first anniversary of launch of AMRUT mission on Doordarshan was screened on a large screen to the big gathering of public representatives, officials, citizens, students and women groups.
Gen. Nyantak expressed great hope that AMRUT mission will prove highly beneficial for Leh town to ensure its beautification and in providing basic amenities and services to the households of Leh and surrounding areas. He stressed on the need to ensure drinking water facility fearing water shortage in coming years in Leh and urged Dr. Zaida to make provisions for proper drinking water supply to each household under AMRUT mission. He appealed the public to support the efforts made by government and coordinate in the work of Council, Municipality by ensuring individual responsibility and contribution in keeping the areas clean and green. He also urged the students not to throw wrappers everywhere and to maintain cleanliness. He said that recently they have demanded union government to provide with more vehicles to NAC office to considering its shortage in meeting necessary demands.
Ex-en R&B, Gyatso informed in detail about AMRUT mission and said that the mission will focus on the thrust areas including water supply; sewerage facilities and septage management; storm water drains to reduce floodin; pedestrian, non-motorized and public transport facilities; parking spaces and enhancing amenity value of cities by creating and upgrading green spaces, parks and recreation centers, especially for children. He stressed on the need to create awareness which he said starts from house and students and women can play a significant role in that in generating social awareness.
Dr. Zaida Bano asserted that Leh Municipality is committed to take Leh towards zero dust and expressed hope to achieve their goal through AMRUT mission which targets transformation of urban area. She said that Leh has been lucky to get selected among five cities in J&K state including Jammu, Srinagar, Anantnag and Kargil for AMRUT mission and appealed the gathering to support them by spreading awareness among others to make this mission successful in next five years. She further informed that the mission has been initiated in Leh district and tendering process is under process with finalised plans.
Briefing about AMRUT, Dr. Zaida said that the mission aims to provide basic services to households and build amenities in cities which will improve the quality of life for all by ascertaining that everyone has access to tap water and sewerage facilities, greenery like parks and open spaces are well maintained, digital and smart facilities like weather prediction, internet and WiFi facilities, pollution reduction by encouraging the public for using cheaper but secure public transport etc. She also announced that soon a quiz contest will be held among various schools regarding AMRUT and urged the students to get themselves prepared. A light refreshment was also given to the participants.
