CUK holds lecture on ‘use and importance of Hindi as official language’

Srinagar, June 23 (Scoop News)-The Rajbhasha Cell of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today organised a lecture on “Use and importance of Hindi as official language” for the administrative staff of the varsity at Nowgam-II academic block here.
The lecture was delivered by former Head Department of Hindi, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar Prof. Vinod Taneja.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Controller of Examinations/Finance Office, Dr. Nazir A Gilkar, Hindi Adhikari, Ms. Sakina Akhter, senior officers of the university and other staff were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the participants, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that languages doesn’t belong to any particular religion or caste and should be learnt by all. “Language is a medium to communicate and understand each other properly and learning different languages can be highly beneficial for an individual,” he said and asked the participants to learn Hindi and subsequently use it in official work as recommended by the Department of Official Languages, Ministry of Home Affairs.
He informed the guest that the administrative staff of the university has evinced keen interest in learning Hindi and majority of them have passed the Prabodh course and have recently appeared in the final examination for completing Praveen course.
In his lecture, Prof. Taneja traced the history of Hindi and deliberated upon its usage in different parts of the country. He said the language has evolved with time and is now being used for official communications in the central government Departments and other institutions. He also identified common mistakes made by people while writing and speaking Hindi. Prof. Taneja asked the participants to use simple Hindi words for communicating officially.
